Spring Awakening
 (New York)
16 Nov 2006 - 3 Jan 2009
Based on Frank Wedekind's original tale, banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years, Spring Awakening at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre has met with rave reviews since its Broadway transfer.

The story is set in Germany in 1891 and concerns the adolescence of two teenagers, Wendla and Melchior. Confused and oppressed by adults who do not understand them, the two protagonists meet coincidentally and fall in love, but that is just the beginning of the story...

Directed by Michael Mayer, with original music by Duncan Sheik and choreography by Bill T Jones, the play features Jonathan Groff as Melchior and Lea Michele as Wendla.
